all i want for christmas is my toenail back....

many of you may have runners (specifically one of the aars) on your holiday shopping list and may be wondering, "what to get the runner who has everything (but speed) ?" inspired by the buzz of the midnight madness sale at running fit this weekend and the daily e-mails/catalogs from rei, i thought i'd toss out a few suggestions for gift ideas for the runner in your life:

1. GPS watch. for the gadget 'ho in all of us. it will not improve your speed, it will not improve your technique, it will only save you from getting in your car and driving your route. of course, you can do that from the comfort of your home with the pimp-my-run site, but the GPS watch is just cool. i don't need one, but i want one.

2. running tights - warm ones. i have yet to find the perfect running tights, ones that are nice and warm on the inside and yet still allow you to breathe. need it for this 25-35 degree weather were having. wind resistance would be good, too. if you find this perfect pair for me, i'll buy you dinner here (although this means a road trip to toledo).

3. reflective gear. vests, arm bands, flashing lights. this winter and daylight savings nonsense means it's alway effing dark these days. you should still run often, but run safely. everyone is doing it.

4. running socks. because it kills me to spend $10 on a pair of socks, although they are often worth it. i'd much prefer you buy them for me.

5. gu. vanilla. and lots of it. it's like crack for runners.

of course, when in doubt, a gift certificate. a benjamin will put me nicely in a new pair of shoes (or 3, if i wait until the mad art fair sales).

ah, there's nothing like a little want and greed to get me in the holiday spirit, don't you agree?

wow - great (dorky) minds think alike! my christmas lists also includes some reflective gear, a stylish vest to be exact.

on a fashionista sidenote, my sis in france says that all spaniards are required to have a reflective vest type thingy in their car in case they have car troubles and need to get out and do some car fixin'. this way they are visible to the other cars speeding by at 150 kph (if you've seen the non-existant shoulders on most of the spanish highways, it makes sense), and the french govt is now considering a similar law for their citizens. those europeans are always the trend setters, no?

p.s. i forgot! an ipod (nano - not to be confused w/ 'naner). even though personally i prefer to minimize my running paraphernalia, it could definitely come in handy, especially on the boring treadmillll........

So seriously, you didn't put "toenail" on your list. Are you secretly deriving pleasure from you lack of... coverage?

And why the naner/nano? Wouldn't you be even more entertained by watching some video on your ipod? Who am I to criticize Christmas lists though. All I could come up with was the new enya cd.
