running away. far far away.

as we all pack up our laptops and laser pointers for the holiday trip back home, i think this might be the 1st time since AARS' inception that there will be no AARS in AA...how will the local running community survive?? oh wait, i haven't been running this entire month...ahem. i wish i could say i was planning on squeezing in a run over the holiday break but seriously, how can freezing you aars off compete with christmas cookies and nog? or fine tuning the power point presentation? or summing up your entire dissertation in < 5 minutes? hmmmmm, running suddenly sounds pretty d..n tempting...

HAPPY HOLIDAYS AARS!

Feliz Cumpleanos!

One of our very own is celebrating her 29th birthday this weekend. Damn, she looks good for her age - must be all the running!

Since Jesus (that's hey-zeus, ya'll) tends to steal her thunder this time of year, we just wanted to make special mention and wish apoz a very Happy Birthday!!

Hope you have a great one!!

all i want for christmas is my toenail back....

many of you may have runners (specifically one of the aars) on your holiday shopping list and may be wondering, "what to get the runner who has everything (but speed) ?" inspired by the buzz of the midnight madness sale at running fit this weekend and the daily e-mails/catalogs from rei, i thought i'd toss out a few suggestions for gift ideas for the runner in your life:

1. GPS watch. for the gadget 'ho in all of us. it will not improve your speed, it will not improve your technique, it will only save you from getting in your car and driving your route. of course, you can do that from the comfort of your home with the pimp-my-run site, but the GPS watch is just cool. i don't need one, but i want one.

2. running tights - warm ones. i have yet to find the perfect running tights, ones that are nice and warm on the inside and yet still allow you to breathe. need it for this 25-35 degree weather were having. wind resistance would be good, too. if you find this perfect pair for me, i'll buy you dinner here (although this means a road trip to toledo).

3. reflective gear. vests, arm bands, flashing lights. this winter and daylight savings nonsense means it's alway effing dark these days. you should still run often, but run safely. everyone is doing it.

4. running socks. because it kills me to spend $10 on a pair of socks, although they are often worth it. i'd much prefer you buy them for me.

5. gu. vanilla. and lots of it. it's like crack for runners.

of course, when in doubt, a gift certificate. a benjamin will put me nicely in a new pair of shoes (or 3, if i wait until the mad art fair sales).

ah, there's nothing like a little want and greed to get me in the holiday spirit, don't you agree?
