hallelujah!

i was skeptical that everyone would actually show up, but for the first time in 2006 all aa-based aars ran together! yeehaw. does this mean we're getting back on track? starting off on the right foot? do people who run together finish dissertations together?

we've got so much to look forward to... burns park, dexter-ann arbor, the crim, and all those half-marathons in our soon-to-be new home states. and because misery loves company, it's so much more fun to run together!! even the rats think so!

happy spring!

today is the 1st day of spring and this AARS says..it's about #$@!&%$ time!!! i told p-loop this morning that i wouldn't be able to run this evening since i had to go grocery shopping and had a ton of other work to do. but then after sitting through a 2.5 hr meeting this afternoon, i knew i had to take advantage of the beautiful sunny albeit brisk day.

so i just got back from a 36 min run (a wee bit slower than last year's time...ahem) down 7th to scio church and back again. and although i was solo (sorry p but i didn't have any time to coordinate), i have to say i had a great run, mostly due to my #1 christmas present (#1 bday present on the other hand was either the egg peeler my mom gave me or the bella nina g.c. from the AARS :). sigh. i'd have to say it doesn't get any better than rockin' out to queen's greatest hits while running on the 1st day of spring. HIT AFTER ENDLESS HIT!

anyway, hope the rest of the AARS is managing to squeeze in some runs as the weather keeps getting nicer!

we'd, part three

So the only thing this has to do with running is that I heard it while still in bed, feeling guilty about sleeping through my alarm (again) and listening to NPR instead of running.

That said - today on the GLRC section of NPR's Morning Edition, there was a bit about how a local Ann Arborite was surprised at how friendly people were to her now that she had a dog. I won't bore you with the specifics, but it went something like, blah blah blah, why are people nice to strangers when they have a dog but are standoffish otherwise, throw in some strange similes ("People pour their love on Lucy like butter"...I mean, who really pours butter? I'm just saying!), close with a heartfelt aww shucks why can't we open our heart to people like we do to dogs, and you have a feel good closer before the BBC news.

So why do I bring this up? Because in a mere 2 min, 41 second human interest fluff piece, the author managed to "we" the listener! Not once, but twice!:

"This summer I was walking Lucy through a campground with my girlfriend" and "Another time, my girlfriend and I were walking the pup downtown."

Umm, okay. We get it. You're taken. To paraphrase Alton Brown, I'm just here for the dog regardless!

So in case you happen to see a woman walking Lucy the black lab somewhere in Ann Arbor, just be prepared to get "we'd". And maybe greet the duo with a preemptive "we" just to keep this whole cute dog/mandatory "we" mention thing in check.
